01/03/21 - Bloom Magazine
Dreamy, electric and ethereal all describe upcoming artist Michy Tree’s music perfectly. Based in Berkshire, England, the 20-year-old, otherwise known as Michelle, incorporates a mixture of elements together to create her distinctive and contemplative sound. Both songs released so far have been written, produced, mixed and mastered entirely by Michy herself, and they are gorgeously done.

Friday Film Review: Notting Hill (& 90s Rom-Coms)
12/02/21 - Bloom Magazine
With Valentine’s Day just days away, and out-for-dinner-dates clearly crossed off the menu, I’ve got a feeling that many people who ordinarily wouldn’t, might turn to a film at some point on Sunday. This week, I’ve been thinking about the romantic comedies I grew up on, specifically the ones from the nineties (and early noughties) and their lasting social and cultural impact. For better or worse, these films have left their mark.

Friday Film Review: Emma
05/02/21 - Bloom Magazine
Emma (2020) was the last film I saw at the cinema before the pandemic arose, nearly a full year ago. So, it will always be a memorable one for me. I sat and watched it one morning before uni classes, at about 9 or 10 AM, solely amongst old ladies, all also on their own, proving my dedication to Jane Austen if anything!

Friday Film Review: Frances Ha
29/01/21 - Bloom Magazine
I originally had another film pencilled in for this week’s review, but I watched Frances Ha (2012) for the first time the other night and knew that I couldn’t ignore it. Or bring myself to write about anything else!

Based on the true story of Chris McCandless and his posthumously published biography (1996) by Jon Krakauer, Into The Wild (2007) documents a solo journey across America in the early 1990s. Brought on by a need to break free from societal constraints and made famous by its tragic conclusion.

Friday Film Review: Before Sunrise
15/01/21 - Bloom Magazine
At once, Before Sunrise feels like a daydream and a film very much grounded in reality. In a sequence of greying, lilac hues, the first instalment of the acclaimed trilogy, follows Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) as they end up in Vienna whilst on their way to other European places.

Friday Film Review: Romeo & Juliet
08/01/21 - Bloom Magazine
As an English Literature student, one of the first Shakespeare plays I was forced to read was Romeo and Juliet. So, I decided that the easiest way to embark upon it was to watch Baz Luhrmann’s glitzy 1996 film adaptation starring a young Leonardo DiCaprio at his best.

The Portrayal of Men in The Queen’s Gambit
21/12/20 - Bloom Magazine
Given the clear link to chess, I was reluctant to watch The Queen’s Gambit. I presumed that it was solely about the game and decided to dismiss it (why would you watch seven hours of chess?). I was wrong. Obviously. And I am probably the last person with a Netflix subscription who has binged the show…

Why Switch From Fast to Slow Fashion?
06/11/20 - G You
Fashion has always fascinated me. Although looking at photos from the noughties, that’s definitely a questionable statement! Still, I stand by it. I love clothes. I’m a self-professed ASOS scroller. I’ve spent entire Saturdays between the rails in New Look. I was the Queen of the Primark sales.
